What Does God Want From Us? (Part II)

Disclaimer : The piece below was written by my beloved mother Susee Mable in July 2008. I found it in her Blogger "draft folder" awaiting to be published onto this blog. It was intended to be an addendum to " What God Wants from You (Part I) ". Illness sadly prevented her from regularly posting and writing. I want to share this post with you (especially since her passing this past April), as it describes a pivotal epoch in her life and is a testament to her trials, character and to the goodness that guided her.—Suhasini Rumour and Unfounded Criticism (written, July 2008): The answer is simple yet, we often overlook the basic principles of all the learning we've done in our lives. God wants us to be loving, compassionate and forgiving. Simple rules to live by, as they cover all of God's grand plan for a successful life. We are bombarded by different messages everyday, some we adhere to, some we don't. Some years ago, my son became gravely ill with ...

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

John 9: 1-7 (1) As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. (2) His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" (3) "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. (4) As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. (5) While I am in the world, I am the light of the world." (6) Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. (7) "Go," he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. (New International Version)

When you are Suffering with Illness: What Thoughts Come to Mind?

The Miracle of Christ Healing the Blind by El Greco Over the past four months, I have been ill with different physical ailments. This is why I have not posted as often as I had intended to do on this blog. When I am ill, I always turn to God in prayer. And He always listens to my prayers, providing me with a great deal of help. For a few days during my suffering, I had such thoughts as these: “Why God? Why? Since my childhood days—when I’d known any knowledge of the world and of Heaven and God and Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, I was and still am very faithful to you. Why must there be so much suffering for me?” Then I opened the Bible, and the following verses came before my eyes: Book of John, Ch 9: 1-3 Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind 1As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so tha...

Prayer

Prayer is a gift to every human being from God; a gift given, so that we can all talk to him anywhere and at anytime. Some people pray without paying much attention. They say a few words and then finish. As a prayer that’s okay but I don’t think you can feel anything profound from it. When you want to pray, set your mind on God. From my experience, if you focus on God and then pray you will certainly feel calm and spiritual. You sense that God is indeed hearing your prayer. I start by thanking him first and then praising him for all the benefits we are receiving from him. Even before you start praying, try and notice if you have any hurtful or negative feelings towards anyone. If so, then try to initiate the process of forgiveness, so that the Lord almighty can forgive you also. This is standard Christian philosophy and I adhere to it in my day-to-day life. Furthermore, if we ask God for anything then we must firmly believe in it. If you have faith, to paraphrase the Bible: you can m...
